What is Periodontal/Gum Disease?
Periodontal Disease (also called "Gum Disease") occurs when plaque that sits below your gums hardens into tartar. If it is not removed, this tartar can cause the tissue of your gums to pull away from your teeth, creating pockets between the teeth and the gums. If left untreated, the bones and tissues that anchor your teeth in your mouth will eventually be destroyed, causing tooth loss in severe cases.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
Treatment depends on the severity of the case, but some nonsurgical treatments include: deep cleaning, more frequent cleanings, and antibiotics. Advanced stages may require surgery or periodontal laser treatment.
