Do I need to have a root canal if I'm getting a crown?

A root canal only needs to be done when there is infection and/or damage in the nerves or pulp of a tooth. Dr. Sigmon will clean out the area and remove the nerve and pulp. A crown is then usually placed on top of the tooth to stabilize and protect it.

If you need a crown simply to restore the shape and structure of a tooth, no root canal is needed.
