A Great Alternative to Traditional Braces
If you are like most people, you were probably not born with a perfect smile. If you have considered getting braces to straighten your teeth but have been reluctant to make a long commitment to the wires and brackets of traditional braces, you now have another option. Invisalign straightens teeth invisibly, comfortably, and painlessly.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic device that straightens teeth using clear plastic aligners that come in a set and must be worn in the correct sequence. You will put in a new set of aligners every two weeks, as they slowly push your teeth into a straightened position. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is unnoticeable, and even someone sitting across from you will likely not notice you are even wearing the aligners. Treatment time is faster than with traditional braces, and usually lasts for about 12 to 18 months, although each individual patient is different and Dr. Sigmon will develop a plan that is right for you.
How Does Invisalign Work?
The Invisalign process starts with 3-D imaging technology that is used to map out a treatment plan from the current position of your teeth to their desired position. A series of clear, BPA-free plastic aligners will be created specifically for you. Approximately every two weeks, you will wear a new set of aligners that will gradually move your teeth into a straightened position.
What Are the Advantages to Invisalign?
Because there are no wires or metal brackets to irritate your mouth, Invisalign is much more comfortable than traditional braces. Another bonus is that you will have fewer visits to the dentist; you will go in once a month or so to keep tabs on your progress. And when you do come in to our office, your appointment will be finished more quickly because there is no need for adjustments.
Unlike traditional braces, the Invisalign aligners are removable, and you should remove them for eating. What this means is that there are no restrictions on foods you can eat as there are with traditional braces. You also must remove them for brushing and flossing your teeth, so cleaning your teeth is easy and effective.
Another advantage is that you will be able to see your teeth clearly as they move into the desired position. You won’t have to wait for treatment to be over before you can see the results.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Invisalign?
There is a certain amount of discipline involved with the Invisalign process. If you can make a commitment to follow the Invisalign plan exactly as directed, you might be a good candidate for Invisalign. This means you will need to wear your aligners for about 22 hours per day, every day.
